If you drive by the farm, about 20 rows on each side look like a weed patch. However, out of the weeds grow the asparagus. I could give you a million reasons why the asparagus doesn’t look perfect. I don’t want to spray the chemicals, weather, time, labor (I didn’t have my AFBF YFR crew to help weed the asparagus), or life happens. But the real reason the asparagus doesn’t “look perfect” is because it is not perfect. Just like our lives, it will never be perfect.
I walk into “my perfection” every morning with my husband and pick the asparagus for the day. I am truly amazing each day, when out of the weeds comes such beauty. The bounty we get to share with our friends, csa members, and family is staggering. Everyday, I am truly speechless at how much is produced overnight. So often we get caught up in how things look. Wanting everything to be or look perfect that we forget to see GOD in the weed patches too. He is doing his best work growing us and teaching us thru the weeds. Some times it takes years to grow, like the asparagus, but he never gives up on us.
We can have yard of the month, all the friends in the town, have the best health, and share all the motivational memes of how to be good people. But are WE doing it? Living it? Are we learning and growing thru the weeds? Maybe we are striving for a perfection that we will never find? Taking note of every good deed but burying the bad ones. Not truly thriving in the weed patch. A few weeks ago, I felt ashamed to share a picture of asparagus growing thru the weeds. It was not perfect. Was it Facebook or email worthy? Since all we tend to see is the perfection my views were altered. I am baffled and very thankful to be picking so much thru the weeds. God opened my eyes and showed me the beauty he has grown thru the years in my weed patch. Ps- I can’t wait for the Afbf yfr crew to come help me weed my asparagus, Lord knows we have the experience.
